Hi y’all,

Its been a while, I know. But today I will be covering this really cool project that happened in the best decade ever, the 90's!

First off, what is the human genome?

The human genome is the complete set of genetic information for humans. Basically the main goals of the Human Genome Project were to provide a complete and accurate sequence of the 3 billion DNA base pairs that make up the human genome and to find all of the estimated 20,000 to 25,000 human genes.

Watch this link, it’ll help you understand it!!

Here’s a bit of background info. Let’s start with the history.

Brief History — The National Human Genome Research Institute was established in 1989, well that is when the program advisory committee had their first meeting ever!! It was initially known as the National Center for Human Genome Research (NCHGR). The NHGRI was to partake in the National Insitute of Health (NIH) in a very interesting and particular assignment, the Human Genome Project.

Scientists all over the world ahve been involved in the massive effort to read all 3 billion of Human DNA. Initiialy they predicted it would take 15 years. They actually took 10 years. Throughout the years, they’ve discovered genetic msitkaes that causes Fibrosis, breast cancer, etc. It hasn’t been easy, and many mistakes have been made.

I am happy to say technology has helped science come very far! Very excited to see what the future will bring for this project.
