Sand — a poem

Accumulating in my eyes
Pouring through an hourglass
Turrets climbing into the skies
A castle never built to last

A new commodity
Shipped to the wealthiest beaches
Oh what a peculiar oddity
The way nothing escapes capitalism’s reaches

Beneath my toes
Shifting in the times
Hiding for weeks in my clothes
Find it in my car sometimes

Covering shells and housing crabs
Conquering Africa in a slow creep
Surviving fires as glowing glass
Rocks eroding into sand as we sleep

We’ll wake and rub it from our eyes
