As a chatbot developer agency we have to be innovative, we can not afford template thinking. In order to produce new ideas you need to feed your brain with new staff that you can digest and hopefully create something new from it.

I love to educate myself about new technology and find ways to stay on top of current innovative ideas. I love reading science fiction books to get inspiration from and learn how not to limit my imagination when I work on new projects building chatbots.

If you want to read a nonfictional book a week, read this article How to read a book a week written by Peter Bregman for HBR. Here is how Peter recommends to handle such books:

  1. Start with the author.
  2. Read the title, the subtitle, the front flap, and the table of contents.
  3. Read the introduction and the conclusion.
  4. Read/skim each chapter.
  5. End with the table of contents again.

I haven’t tried this technique yet and I also make the same mistake as the author, I read nonfictional books like a novel word by word, afraid to miss something out.

Peter also strongly recommends to get to know the author before reading the book, find interviews or videos with him/her.

Throughout my reading, I take notes in preparation for my conversation with the author. Where do I agree? Where do I disagree? What questions are still simmering? What might I want to discuss with others or think more about in the coming days? These notes are a good idea for every reader to take.
