Mac — I normally use Activities on Apple watch to keep a tab on all my work outs . I used it in the half marathon as well .. It worked very well. Before Apple Watch , I used Strava on my iPhone. The important thing for Apple users is integration with health platform.

I am sure there are ton of other applications and lots of choices on Android as well. The fitness space is growing very fast :-)
