5 things I learnt from my 5 years of marriage

While the roller coaster called life continues, these 5 years of marriage have mostly been joyful rides! What started as a bachelor pad of two carefree individuals has now transformed into a nurturing home with a little one keeping us on our toes. We are growing with time at all levels, the foundation however is rock solid thanks to these 5 things-

  1. Showing love through action

From mugs, ketchup bottles, lamps… you name it and I have dropped them all! Whenever something like this happens, instead of being angry, the response starts with- Did you get hurt? Let’s be calm and careful while cleaning up the glass pieces.

Love isn’t just about saying ‘I love you’ a hundred times, but it lies in action of kindness and support, in all things big and small.

2. Being vulnerable, being ourselves

When reality doesn’t meet expectations, we express our views objectively without the fear of being judged. We try to find the solution without dragging the past/any biases. We accept and love each other for who we are, for the principles we stand for. We can be in extreme ends of crazy, mature, or plain lazy- we just love being our moody selves enjoying the moment for what it is!

3. Friendship and humor

We compose our own songs to suit the situation and trust me when I say that it won’t make sense but will be hilarious. We are best friends, partners in crime and share the household work equally. Whether it’s to maneuver questions from an inquisitive relative or to uplift our moods, friendly humor definitely helps!

4. Reset every morning, it’s a new day!

I can’t emphasize enough on how important a positive morning is! Just a simple good morning wish with a smile goes a long way. Even better if it ends with a loving good night wish. However, we know life isn’t painless and we just go with the flow. There’d be a comforting reassurance that everything will eventually be fine. We wake up to a fresh start, ready to take charge of our day!

5. Reflecting and celebrating

Taking time out to discuss our roots, our present and where we are headed makes our bond stronger. The heart is filled with hope and motivation to be better every single day, moving towards our goals. While days like birthdays and anniversaries are special, we don’t wait for those days to surprise each other with thoughtful gifts/ simple gestures. We try to be happy and grateful for being alive to experience this life 😊

“Your relationship with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship you have.”

I would urge you to read this article again, as a conversation with yourself ;)

Don’t forget to love yourself first!
