Humility and Mentorship

Life is something that can’t be lived alone. We all have someone with us every time that help us in difficult moments of our life. A living without a partner is no more than a flower without fragrance, which is only used for show. As we all have life partners so that we can live a happy life. We all have a lot of persons that have been helping us throughout our life. They help us in difficult situations and in decision making related to education, life, and job etc. These persons are known as our mentors and our relation with these people is called mentorship or accompaniment by Jacqueline Novogratz. Mentorship is very important for every one of us.

I also have a lot of mentors during my life including my parents, brothers, friends and teachers. They all have been helping me during my educational as well as normal life. The one who has changed my life and helped me become what I am today is my Prof.Ishaf Ahmed. He has been a mentor for me since I met him.

I met him when I was desperate about my education after Matric. I didn’t know what to do now, because I have no idea about further studies. He guided me and told me what I should do? With his accompaniment I passed my Intermediate exam and achieved 1st position. It was a significant success for me. Because of him I also got selected for PEEF scholarship for my graduation program. It is all because of his help, I strongly believe that if I hadn’t met him I wouldn’t have been the person I am today.

Humility is being the person that other people want you to be. Don’t feel special as all men are created equal. We all have equal rights. We all are same. Humility means living a life of purpose as says Jacqueline Novogratz: Inspiring a life of Immersion. Being a person who has a purpose to serve humanity and who only lives so that he can help humanity survive. Humility means listening to others. Humility means learning from the people around you. Humility has been very helpful for me to learn from my mentors. If, I haven’t been humble and don’t have humility, it would’ve been impossible to learn from my mentors. I believe humility is very important for us if we want to live a life of immersion.
