Babita Ji bought a washing machine from Jethalal’s Gada Electronics and just has been the history of much of his life, nothing is quite as straightforward as it seems. While he was hoping to receive appreciations for selling such a top-notch product, an interesting twist awaited at his doorstep.

The Washing machine he sold unbelievably jiggles even with the electric switch off. What makes the machine behave this way? Is it, just the way Goli put it, a ghost? An unholy spirit who takes pleasure in shaking electronic appliances to scare people? Even Iyer, a pragmatic scientist is feeling a little scared. What could it possibly be?

If you remember a few episodes earlier when Doctor Hathi was complimenting Bhide on writing a valuable message on Gokhuldam Society’s blackboard, an angry Reporter Popatlal approached them to give Bhide a piece of his mind about the trouble of using his mobile phone’s torch to navigate to his apartment upon returning from work at night.

His complaint had to do with a faulty tube light and Bhide assured Popatlal that he would look into the matter and get it fixed to Popatlal’s likings. But Bhide did mention that Popatlal’s predicament could be because of faulty wiring in his wing.

Now Remember, Popatlal lives in the same wing as Babita Ji (wing C). And the wiring problem could affect a tube light; it could very much have an impact on Babita Ji’s washing machine. It is possible that as a result of faulty wiring, some electric charge (earth) is being carried to the washing machine even when the switch is off which makes it shake uncontrollably.

In Tuesday’s episode, when Tapu removed the plug from the switch, they did not clearly show whether the machine still shook so that is interesting because it would have been easier to reach a conclusion, had they made it clear whether the machine still shook with the plug out of the socket. Having said that, it is scientifically possible for a machine to reserve some of the charge (through capacitors) and later make use of it. So if the machine shakes even with the plug removed, it could still be attributed to a case of faulty wiring.

This is the best reason I could come up with to explain what could be forcing a washing machine to act this way. The ghost story just didn’t hold up.

What do you think?
