With the Democrats and Republicans at an impasse, the government shutdown has prolonged to 10 days now. As a result of this, nearly 18,000 FAA workers have been furloughed. However, officials classified as “essential workers” are exempt from furloughs and continue to report to work. So, for instance, a majority of TSA, ATC and Customs and Border Protection folks keep working in spite of this funding lapse.

Thankfully, due to the passage of the 2018 Reauthorization Bill, the aircraft registry remains open as well.

But, what about the National Parks? Can you still go to your favorite National Park this holiday season? Well, the answer is slightly complicated. While, the National Parks themselves remain open, the NPS is not being paid, and hence are not reporting to work.
