Misleading News Stories
When it comes to the news, we want to believe what is being reported. Recently we haven’t been able to trust what we see on the internet due to the abundance of “fake news.” The appearance of “fake news” confuses our take on the World’s current events.
“Fake news” is a now more prevalent than ever. We just witnessed one of the biggest US election in history. With the big election, “fake news” heightened with content we have never seen before. This content was big in the election, as story writers wrote bogus reports about Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Bogus reports mislead Americans and might have changed the outcome of the election.
Fake news is fairly easy for an individual to create. According to “Fake News: How a Partying Macedonian Teen Earns Thousands Publishing Lies” by NBC, Google AdSense, “an online advertising service that allows websites to make money” is being taken advantage of by bogus news writers. Writers like Dimitri, in NBC’s story, to bring in over $27,000 a month through Google AdSense. They receive profits for every click they get on their fake stories.
“Fake news” has turned into a business which is hurting US politics by misconstruing the view of the American public. We need to find ways to filter out this fake news on the internet and stop this terrible business.
