That's the issue, Segwit2x will make it more expensive to hold a full node, which means there'll be less nodes on the network. Even worse, the nodes that’ll remain will be mainly owned by miners and other centralized entities (like online wallets and exchanges). The community will have little influence over any decisions, and the fact that the “official” repository will change to BTC1 will make the Core team powerless to push code changes without miner approval.
