We were invited to participate at the Mobile World Congress last fall and were one of the youngest startups at the event. Many consider the Mobile World Congress to be the place to introduce the latest avant garde technology on the market. The Congress takes place in Barcelona, one of the most important tech cities in Europe, over a one week period.

Our team had a busy week. First, we presented the MainTool smart watch strap at 4YFN, a congress event inside MWC that features the most innovative startups in the world. We also collaborated directly with La French Tech, arguably the biggest french startup community, on its Internet of Things hackathon. At the hackathon, we advised the brightest students of the country on their projects and judged them. …

MainTool joined dozens of promising startups at the showcase in London, one of the biggest wearable events worldwide. After two years of intense product development and work on our smartwatch strap, we couldn’t miss the chance to attend the show and introduce the MainTool band to the wearable industry for the first time.

The wearable device market has been on the incline for the last several years. Some projections even suggest that the wearable device market will reach more than 6.3 billion in revenue by 2020 at minimum according to a report from Tractica. Today the applications of wrist wear wearable tech has its’ focus on entertainment and health/activity monitoring; but there is little to no doubt that the future of this market lies in the development of the medical device space.

MainTool, is already starting to move towards this direction as we are teaming up with insurance agencies, residential health care centers, and hospitals as verticals in our entry. One market that has demanded the MainTool Smart Strap has been the elderly population. While the Apple Watch or a Fitbit is desired because of the flashy market entry, there is one fact that remains; they are gadgets and not watches. These wearables compromise on the brand and culture the classic timepiece; causing the elderly population to remain hesitant to buy one. MainTool solves this adoption problem and has developed a partnership with a software platform called Senior Growth to maximize its utility in this population. …
