  • It may lead into colorectal cancer when healthy cells develop errors in their DNA — Inherited gene mutations increase the risk of developing colon cancer
  • If there is a family history of colon cancer — colon cancer syndromes include familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) and hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC)
  • There is Medical conditions such as diabetes or obesity — cells’ genetic components are mutated, they divide abnormally and accumulate in the colon to form a tumor
  • Lifestyle factors that increase the colorectal cancer risk because of obesity, lack of exercise, cigarette, too much alcohol
  • Bad food habits like high in fat, or high amounts of red meat, such as beef
  • Foods that are low in fiber, or not enough fruits and vegetables

Dr Astha Bhatt, Colorectal Surgeon, recommend certain screening tests for healthy people with no signs or no symptoms of colorectal cancer in order to examine for signs of colon cancer or noncancerous colon polyps.
