I could barely speak the language,
On Identity
N. Mozart Diaz

I would love for you to share the story behind this claim; I was under the impression that you were born in the Philippines and raised by Filipino parents, and thus have been exposed to the language from the moment you could understand its structure and appreciate the beauty of its every syllable. But perhaps I assumed wrongly. Otherwise, I find it hard to understand how you could “barely” speak the language.

I learned a lot from your story, though. It’s very informative, to say the least. Thank you for sharing! Needless to say, I, too, ended up wondering whether I’m worthy of the title “Filipino” myself.

A single golf clap? Or a long standing ovation?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
