I left tech for a support role in tech ed. It’s counter-intuitive at first blush but I spend two hours every week of the school year in a high school classroom. I help to create a supportive environment for all of my students. The computer cannot tell the gender/class/race/etc. of the coder — only the quality of the code. The ability to code can be learned and, as an instructor, it’s my goal to help every student become the best coder they can be.
I learned to code when I was thirteen on a Honeywell mini in the basement of a land-grant college. I am not a genius — what I had was _opportunity_ and _support_. This is not too much to ask.
