~ Dr. Seuss

Reading is one of the most fundamental skills a child needs to learn to succeed in life. Developing good reading habits is vital to your child’s future not just academically but in terms of developing a great personality as well. Parents and teachers should make sure that they encourage students to read as many books as possible, from various genres in order to open up a whole new world for them. Good schools take care of this, and hence, you must make sure you put your child in one of the best international schools in Bangalore like SNIS (Sharanya Narayani International School). SNIS encourages students of all classes to read books from various genres so that they can build interest in various fields.

Here are a few reasons why early reading habits in children should be inculcated:

Reading increases attention span: Encouraging good reading habits from an early age increases the child’s attention span and helps them to focus better and for longer periods of time. In today’s world, when the attention span of children is decreasing owing to their increased use of social media and video games, reading would be a great tool to better this aspect.

Reading improves the thirst for knowledge: Books open up a lot of different worlds before the children. It exposes them to so many different things around the world and makes them eager to know more. This way, they become curious people and keep asking more questions and seeking their answers.

Reading develops vocabulary: Reading good books exposes children to new words every day. They might come across words that are not used as part of normal speech. This way, his/ her language gets enriched and this helps him/ her to become confident individuals.

Reading improves confidence: Reading extensively gives a lot of benefits to everyone. They impart knowledge to the reader and enriches his/ her language in a big way. All this adds up to their confidence and they become capable of presenting themselves in a great way anywhere.

Developing reading habits early lead to a lifelong love for books: Children who start reading regularly from an early age are more likely to enjoy reading later in life. This will serve them well throughout their education and beyond.
