Austin is truly an amazing city. It is the music capital of the world that also has an emerging tech scene. Its warm most of the year and offers some of the best food in the US. If you’re looking to make the move to Austin, check out the top reasons (beside the job) to do so.

Live Music Every Night of the Week

Austin has a wide range of live music every night to pick from. From The Saxon Pub and Continental Club where you can catch world famous acts to the Paramount Theater which is perfect for an upscale night, Austin has it all. If music is your thing, Austin is your city.

Barbecue

If you’re not moving to Texas for the barbecue, maybe you should reconsider doing so. Texas is known for its delicious barbecue and Austin is nothing short of amazing. Some of the more popular places are The Salt Lick, La Barbecue and Franklin Barbecue where the line is so long, you’ll be waiting at least an hour (on a slow day!).

South by Southwest

South by Southwest is about a week-long festival for thousands of bands, films, and even interactive events (one reason Austin is such a great tech city!).

SXSW Music is the largest music festival of its kind in the world, with more than 2,000 acts as of 2014. SXSW Music offers artist-provided music and video samples of featured artists at each festival via their official YouTube channel.

SXSW Film Conference spans five days of conference panels and sessions, and welcomes filmmakers of all levels. Programming consists of keynote speakers, panels, workshops, mentor sessions and more, with expert filmmakers and industry leaders.

SXSW Interactive is focused on emerging technology, a focus which has earned the festival a reputation as a breeding ground for new ideas and creative technologies. The festival includes a trade show, speakers, parties, and a startup accelerator. According to a festival organizer, Louis Black, SXSW Interactive “has probably been the biggest of its kind in the world” since 2007.

Tex-Mex and Margaritas

When in Texas, the food is nothing short of spectacular and that includes the Tex-Mex and margaritas! Tex-Mex (from Texan and Mexican) is a fusion of United States cuisine and Mexican cuisines, deriving from the culinary creations of Tejanos. It has spread from border states such as Texas and others in the Southwestern United States to the rest of the country as well as Canada however, it is most popular in the state of Texas. Some of the more popular places include Matt’s Famous El Rancho, Trudy’s, Maudie’s, Chuy’s, and Vivo.

6th Street

In Austin, 6th street is infamous! This is where live music, incredibly cheap drinks, and bars door to door can be found.

It’s Mostly Warm Year Round

Central Texas has two seasons, spring and summer. From March until November, Austin can reach temperatures up to 110 degrees and for the rest of the year, it will feel like springtime.

It’s a Tech Town

Those in IT looking to move to Austin soon may be in luck: the tech scene is booming. Major company’s such as Facebook, Google and more have offices here and Austin’s own innovative startup community is just as creative and collaborative.
