I failed myself only because I broke my golden rule: Never buy shoes online. Always try shoes on. Saving $20 on shoes that don’t fit and have to be returned — by mail, no less — is not worth it. Get shoes that fit the first time you put them on. It is worth it. It’s always worth it.
Never Buy Shoes Online

This is generally my rule as well. But then I get so irritated when I can’t find what it is that I’m looking for in the store — usually really comfortable yet cute ballet flats that cost under $50. It seems that the actual comfortable/sturdy-yet-cute ones are north of that now and I’m not emotionally equipped to deal with that so I continue to look online. But then never buy anything because buying shoes online has never worked out for me.
