Prepare for Athena Testnet Launch: How to Set up Rinkeby Network on MetaMask
We’re launching the Athena Testnet on Friday, May 22, 2022. To participate in the testing our platform, you will need to connect the Rinkeby Test Network to your MetaMask wallet and receive free Test Ethers.
In this guide, we will show you the steps required to do so.
🦊 How to set-up your wallet for the Athena Testnet on MetaMask
As you may know, MetaMask is a crypto wallet that allows you to manage your crypto assets and interact with blockchain apps across the decentralized web. Our testnet will initially work with MetaMask only. Therefore, you’ll need to set-up your MetaMask wallet and then set-up the Rinkedby Testnet on MetaMask to participate in the Athena Testnet.
Here’s a quick tutorial:
Step 1: If you haven’t already, install the MetaMask browser extension on your preferred browser. Chrome, Firefox, Brave, and Edge are all supported.
Step 2: Once you have installed the browser extension, you can import an existing wallet or use the account that is automatically created.
Step 3: Inside your MetaMask wallet, click the tab that shows “Ethereum Mainnet” at the top right. Then select “Rinkeby Test Network” to connect with MetaMask.
💡Tip: If you cannot find Rinkeby Test Network, go to My Account > Settings > Advanced > Show test networks
Here are the details of Rinkeby Test Network:
- Network Name: Rinkeby Test Network
- New RPC URL: https://rinkeby.infura.io/v3
- Chain ID: 4
- Currency Symbol: ETH
- Block Explorer URL: https://rinkeby.etherscan.io
And you’re done! Your MetaMask wallet is now connected to the Rinkeby Test Network.
💰 How to Get Free Test Ethers
After you connect your MetaMask wallet to the Rinkeby Test Network, you will need Test Ethers to participate in Athena Testnet on the Rinkedby Test Network.
Why do we need Test Ethers?
Test Ethers allow us to test our platform while avoiding the payment of gas fees associated with transactions executed on the Ethereum blockchain.
Here is how to get free Test Ethers for the Rinkeby Test Network:
Let’s continue from setting your MetaMask wallet and connecting it to Rinkeby Test Network, here is how to get free Test Ethers for Rinkeby Test Network.
Step 1: Go to the Rinkeby Faucet website — https://faucets.chain.link OR https://rinkebyfaucet.com to get free Ethers (ETH).
Each website will have the slightly different method to get the Ethers, but the similar requirement is your wallet address under Rinkeby Test Network in MetaMask.
Step 2: Complete the steps required to get free Ethers for each website and then submit the request.
Step 3: Once you have submitted the request for free ethers, wait approximately 2 to 15 minutes for the ethers to transfer to your given wallet address.
Here below is what you will see when test ethers funded to your account.
