Day Eight
Monday, July 4th
Happy birthday, America!
Today was quite the day. Almost everyone woke up feeling hungover and dead. I am luckily blessed because I function well on little sleep and don’t get hangovers unless I get obliterated, so I felt much better than most. We went to a winery that I do not know the name of. The wine was good, but the first winery was definitely better. However, this winery had a really awesome old cat, and I was all about that. Before we went to this winery we unfortunately picked up this horrid tour guide name Katarina. She would not stop talking the entire time on the bus. She said a lot of nothing. She might have actually been Italian because she put a’s on the end of all her words. She wouldn’t stop smiling. She was essentially everything I dislike in the world. BUT back to this cool cat. She was a boss. She was really old and guarded the bathrooms and demanded attention. If I am ever reincarnated as a cat, I want to be her. I bet she gets so much attention from drunk people. A+ cat.

After a slightly long bus ride with Katarina blabbing the whole time we arrived in Chania. I LOVED Chania. We got a quick lunch (surprise, we had gryos!) and then had a walking tour of Chania. I’m going to Venice after this trip is over, and Katarina claims Chania is the “Venice of the South”, and if that’s true, I’m going to love Venice. The buildings are gorgeous, and I didn’t really get anything from what our lovely tour guide said, but I enjoyed the walk!

After some cake to celebrate America and a quick nap, we went out for dinner. Most people (including myself) thought Barnes was taking us somewhere to kill us because we started going up a very dark, secluded road that seemed to be leading towards nowhere. We reached this really dope dinner place, though, that I wouldn’t trade for anything. We ate at a table that was right next to the water. We could hear the soft waves hitting the stone in the dark and it was great. I was especially proud of myself at dinner because of the food I tried. I tried fried fish balls, octopus, and shark. I’m a girl that couldn’t even stomach the smell of seafood in high school and was so picky I could barely eat vegetables, and hear I was! Trying octopus! I preferred the calamari and the mussels to the other things, but it was still great. Kelsey also found a beautiful kitten she held all of dinner and that only added to the dinner.
After dinner we went to a bar next to the water to drink for America. We all had one drink. I really enjoyed mine and the vibe of the bar because I like loud and hip bars, but apparently I was one of the only ones. I talked a lot about horror movies at this bar and gave Madi nightmares (whoops) but it was still a good time!
