Day Twelve

Friday, July 8th

Our first site for today was Tiryns. Tiryns is cool because it was an ancient city that had a lot of structures that are built only out of stone, or corbels. They can withstand even earthquakes. It was known not only for its walls, but its buildings in general.

We are now at Mycenae! This is a really cool moment because it is so freaking old and so well known. Anyone who has read The Odyssey and actually read/absorbed it knows about Mycenae. This is awesome. It’s huge. It’s hard to absorb where you are. There’s the history of the 19 people that were extracted here and the glory of it. There’s the fact that by the time of the big pyramids was when the Mycenaeans started their own civilization. It’s awesome.

But probably the number one, best thing, hands down, about Mycenae is that this is where Clytemnestra got her own and made sure Agamemnon was stabbed. Because I can’t stand Agamemnon. I’m happy he was stabbed here. That’s awesome. I’m glad I’m here.

After Mycenae (and the loud, obnoxious French there) we saw the Treasury of Atreus, which was pretty cool. It was crazy to think about how it was built from just rocks. A lot of people were really creeped out by it and thought they felt other-worldly vibes, but I didn’t feel any of that. I just thought it was kinda cool.

This was a free night when we got back, so we could do whatever we wanted. AJ and Kristin went to the theater, but eleven of us went together and ate dinner. I think it’s pretty awesome that we all ate together, even when we didn’t have to- and I know that AJ and Kristin would have been there with us if they didn’t go to the show! Our dinner was amazing. I had the best pasta I think I have ever had that night. My stomach hurt so I didn’t go out for drinks after, but it was still a great night with great conversation!
