Fellow Citizens,

Since exiting stealth on Monday, June 13, we have been thrilled to see how excited you all are about Planet Atmos. Your reception humbles us and strengthens our resolve to make an awesome new world with you all.

As part of this, we are eager to keep you all in the loop regularly as we continue to build behind the scenes — creating art, developing mechanics, codifying the world, and more. To that end, let’s take a look at recent updates.

MKIV Datacard Launch

Just one week after exiting stealth, we launched the MKIV Datacard. This Datacard is the first piece of Atmosian history on-chain and will reveal the first detailed look at the Genesis MKIV Exo — the most sophisticated Exo ever produced by Emergent Intergalactic. Each part of the Exo is shown off in incredible detail with additional information on what each piece of equipment does.

As mentioned in Planet Atmos’ first Twitter Spaces, the Datacard may receive additional data updates between now and the Genesis MKIV sale, and will include access to an exclusive mint window for the MKIV.

The contents of the Datacard will be revealed upon the end of its mint to prevent information leakage to non-holders — more on this soon. Learn more about the Datacard here.

NFT.NYC

Citizens who follow us on Twitter and are in the Discord will know that a portion of the team attended NFT.NYC 2022. We are happy to report that the gaming-focused talks appeared to net a good amount of engagement from attendees. Generally speaking, much of the conversation around web3-enabled gaming has matured greatly over the recent months. Rather than focusing inordinately on tokens and economies, the dialog shifted to building quality gaming experiences for communities — and the challenges that come with it.

The team found this particularly refreshing to hear, as our ethos aligns with building a truly awesome gaming experience with rich lore and collaboration opportunities. Web3 technologies are the tools needed to achieve greater ownership and player empowerment, but not a game in and of themselves. These technologies aside, we’re building a game that is fun to play and can stand on its own.

Planet Atmos at NFT.NYC

We weren’t just attending talks at NFT.NYC, we were giving them. Atmos Labs’ Founder and CEO, Kevin Beauregard was an anchor for the gaming track of the conference. Kevin’s talk spanned how the team came up with Planet Atmos and, importantly, Metaverse-Native Sports. Worldly context is a key factor in creating compelling games and sports. Physical world sports are bound by the physics of this world, so sports in the Metaverse necessarily need their own class.

What would humans do for fun in the context of 500 years from now, in lower gravity, with cutting edge flight suits? It’d probably look a lot like ExoGP. The Metaverse’s affordances allow us to not only imagine it, but create it with a high degree of fidelity.

Atmos Labs’ VP of Game Design, Dylan Bushnell spoke on a panel with other game builders in the space. In particular, Dylan focused on player motivations within games. Web3 has done a great job of identifying the “collector” type of player, those looking to have all the in-game items for personal satisfaction, but it has not yet fully engaged other player motivations. The horizontal-integration of web3 technologies and an increasingly frictionless experience will be necessary for web3 gaming to be successful.

Additionally, as a sponsor of the event, Atmos had a great deal of branding in and around the conference. We are incredibly proud of our VFX and art departments for designing, modeling, and producing glimpses of the MKIV Exos, many of them flying around Times Square.

An Atmosian Arcade

What is a conference without some great parties? Planet Atmos hosted a meetup at the historic Chinatown Fair arcade. One of the great arcades of NYC, Chinatown Fair has been through the early days of Space Invaders, been a hub for the Fighting Game Community, and still welcomes gamers of all backgrounds today.
