Work Experience

Recently I did a week work experience at Norwich School, Norfolk. I found the time there very valuable, this is because I was able to work with KS3 students and sixth form students. This meant I gained knowledge in both areas which will help me in deciding which age group to work with. I also had experience across the different subject groups with the arts department. I helped the students in different parts of their projects, some were finishing projects and others just starting.

The school had begun another project with other sixth forms in the area, working on a collaboration project on Ancestry. This allowed me to work with other students and develop skills within collaboration projects and given me ideas for when I become a teacher and what I can do project wise with students.

Overall this week of experience benefited me as I gained further knowledge into the teaching profession. It also brought to my attention the other ways of getting into teaching, in a public/private school you do not need a PGCE (however they normally help you gain the qualification) and there is a graduate scheme and an artist in residency programme where you can become a qualified teacher on the job. This has given me a new route into the job I want to be in.
