How using the right credit card can save on travel and more

America runs on coffee. Whether it’s a Carmel Macchiato from Starbucks, or a Dunkin Donuts’ Iced Latte, to a simple brew from McDonald’s, we all have our preferences, but little did you know that using your credit card can to purchase a cup of Joe can lead to big savings. Here are some credit cards for coffee lovers to consider:

1. Chase Freedom: This credit card gives you 5% cash back on your coffee, as well as any other restaurant purchase throughout September. Also, $150 is up for grabs for those who spend $500 on new purchases within the first three months of opening an account.

2. American Express Everyday Preferred Credit Card: This cool credit card gives customers the opportunity to get 50% bonus points during any statement period where they make 30 charges or more. So drink one coffee a day and become eligible for this perk. You also get three times the points on up to $6,000 spent each calendar year at supermarkets, gas stations and one point per dollar everywhere else.

3. Citi ThankYou Premier: Say hello to double points on dining, including coffee shops, restaurants and bistros. The points can also be transferred to airline miles or hotel points to cut the cost of future travel. Roman Shteyn, co-founder of RewardExpert.com, a credit card based travel service, said that smart spending can come with huge pay-offs — like trips around the world for a fraction of the cost. His company works to turn credit card points and rewards into discounted flights. “When you are smart about spending, you can make something as simple as a daily coffee help you take the trip you’ve always wanted to take,” Shteyn said.
