How !important; are you?
In the ever growing world of web design I've learned a key question to ask myself to keep myself in check and hopefully it can help you out too. As the great designers and developers that you are, keep yourself important and Keep on keepin’ on.
How important are you?
A great question to ask yourself is “How important are you?” I know, it’s pretty loaded but it can be applied to many different context’s, let’s keep this web related for now:
* As a web designer in the world of web design (freelancer)
* As a group member of a small business or a firm (Developer or designer, we all know that they share equal importance…)
* As a business person (e-Commerce / Web Marketing / SEO)
If you've read through http://alistapart.com/article/burnout (which you should have already read it, if not, I highly recommend it !) we know that creating a balance between work and play is imperative for a thriving and a successful career.
Something that comes hand-in-hand with burnout is the notion of feeling unnoticed. While your working day-in and day-out without anyone acknowledging your existence, or feeling some sort of worthlessness because for some reason your contribution to the community, in any way, whether it be the web community or the community in general, just doesn't feel like enough.
Working in the web industry
Working in the web industry isn't easy, there’s goals that you need to set, deadlines you need to meet and appearances you need to up keep, and feeling anything less than your absolute best is just going to drive you further into perils which will lead you somewhere that has broken links and Comic-Sans font on the entire website
So go ahead and change that attitude now! You are a great designer, developer, marketing professional, whatever you are, you need to see that for yourself. If your company can’t see that, maybe you need to find another business to work for or maybe your client base doesn't quite suite your niche.
