How to Remove Background Noise From Audio Recording in 3 Steps

Anyone who has ever tried to record audio knows that background noise can be a real pain. Even in the best circumstances, it can be difficult to avoid ambient noise from things like air conditioners, traffic, or nearby conversations. Step 1

Open iZotope RX 9 Audio Editor. You will see a screen telling you “Open File” or “Drag & Drop”.

Step 2

Simply drag and drop your file including your audio. It can be an audio file or a video file.

Step 3

If it is an absolute dialogue, select “Dialogue Isolate” from the right menu.

Highlight the audio wave for which you want to remove the background noise.

Then without changing the parameters, click on the “Render” button on the “Dialogue Isolate” window.

You are done! Now listen the result. If you are not satisfied with the result, you can undo with Command + Z or Control + Z. Then, you can try to change parameters of Dialogue Isolate tool.

What if your recording doesn’t include dialogues?

It’s simple! Repeat the first 2 steps.

Step 3 Alternative

If your audio recording includes different sounds rather than a dialogue you need to use “Spectral De-noise” tool.

It is a bit more complex tool but you’ll learn how to use it in a minute.

After opening the tool select the noisy part of your sound wave.

Then, click on the “Learn” button on upper left corner. This will make the algorithm recognize the noise profile of your recording.

Choose the “Best” instead of “Fast” from left bottom. You can also set a threshold and a reduction level.

After this step you can select the whole audio and listen it by clicking on “Preview”. If you are okay with the result, you can proceed with the “Render” button.

After all…

You can save and overwrite the file by Ctrl + S or CMD + S or,
save as by Ctrl + Shift + S or CMD + Shift + S.
