1 Peter 5:8

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

The devil and his demons cannot just come and do things to us without an open door. Therefore, this open door gives the devil an access to the hedge of protection God has around us. If we don’t close these doors, the devil will continue to use different things and people to wreak havoc on us. Remember, we wrestle not with flesh and blood. We are not fighting people but the evil spirit behind them, which is the devil. The devil can use anyone with an open door to do his dirty work. So, when we think we are fighting people, it’s the devil using them as pons. That is why we need to close all open doors to him. No one is immune to being used by the devil, especially if they have any open doors. If those doors are not closed, it gives the devil and his demons legal rights to come in and run ramped into our lives. Some people may not realize when the devil is using them. The devil uses people to cause division and deception to carry out his plans.

Everything may not always be the devil but he uses open doors to come in and do whatever he likes to us. He plays a major role in a lot of discourse in the world. He does it in such a way that we don’t notice that it is him. He wants us to think that we are fighting each other instead. Sometimes, what also opens the door to the devil is our disobedience to God. When we go against God’s Word because we want to do things our own way. Sometimes we feel we do not need God.

The Mind

Our minds are the battlefield for attacks from the enemy. Our thoughts are where the true battle is fought. We are all fighting our own battles of the mind. We all have our own struggles, that is why we need to be mindful of how we treat each other.

Although the devil may plant seeds in our minds, we don’t have to dwell or accept it into our spirits. We must not let it take root because it is giving the devil an open door to us. The devil is good at accusing and lying to get what he wants. We must not believe what he feeds us, that is why we need to renew our minds with God’s Word. So we will know what is true and what lies are coming from the enemy’s camp. None of us are immune to being tempted or deceived by the enemy. He is very cunning and tricky. He will use anything and anyone to carry out his evil schemes. What we think in our minds opens the door to the enemy.

Proverbs 23:7

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.

2 Corinthians 10:5

casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

Heart

If we allow those thoughts from the devil to manifest and take root, our hearts are then becomes affected. A stronghold is then developed holding us captive and under the control of the devil. Our thoughts are very important and the enemy knows that. The enemy knows that if he can attack our thoughts and we accept the lies, he’s got us and it furthers his agenda to kill, steal and destroy us. We don’t have to believe every lie the devil feeds us. We have a choice. We can reject those lies. Cast it down and bring it into alignment with God’s Word. Every situation, thought, and belief flows into our hearts. We must test every spirit and hold every thought captive and make sure it lines up with the Word of God. What we feel in our heart opens the door to the enemy.

Proverbs 4:23

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

1 John 4:1

Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.

Mouth

Whatever is stored in our heart spurs up and out of the mouth, if not addressed in the mind. The tongue is a powerful member. It can create life or death. It can create blessings and curses. Once it is out in the atmosphere there’s no taking it back. It sets the tone to create whatever was released, positive or negative. What comes out of our mouth opens the door to the enemy.

Matthew 15:18

But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.

Proverbs 18:21

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

Matthew 15:10–11

When He had called the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear and understand:

Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”

Matthew 15:19

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.

James 3:8–10

but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. with the tongue we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come blessing and cursing.

Romans 12:20–21

Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Relationships

Satan causes division and strife among people. When we think that we are fighting people it is the enemy, the devil causing unrest in our relationships. The enemy would do anything to break up our relationship because he thrives on isolating us. If he can get us alone and without support, it makes his job easier. Isolation is where he can work on our mind. So he has to break up our close connections to hold us captive. That is why forgiveness and unity is so important. Division and strife in our relationships, opens the door to the enemy.

Matthew 5:9

Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.

Matthew 5:44–45

But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

Ephesians 4:27

Neither give place to the devil.

We must address and close these open doors to the devil.

Intimacy and relationship with the Holy Spirit

Identify open doors to the devil

Close open doors to the devil:

Repent

Forgive (self and others)

Feed and fill your mind with God’s Word

Obey God’s Word

Ephesians 4: 31

Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.

Ephesians 4: 32

And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Galatians 5:19–21

Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Consequences of leaving open doors to the devil.

Matthew 12:43–45

When an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, seeking rest but finding none.

Then it says, ‘I will return to the person I came from.’ So it returns and finds its former home empty, swept, and in order.

Then the spirit finds seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they all enter the person and live there. And so that person is worse off than before. That will be the experience of this evil generation.”
