Discover the Caribbean's oldest colonized territory.

Also known as the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevi, this two-islands country is situated in the West Indies (Caribbean). It is the smallest sovereign state in the Western Hemisphere, governed by Queen Elizabeth II. English is its official language, and the local currency is the East Caribbean Dollar.

Christopher Columbus visited Saint Kitts on his second voyage in 1493.

After his passage, French and British settlers started to fight to establish a colony of their own on the island, and the land was finally attributed to Great Britain in 1783.

Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park is one remarkable trace of those chaotic colonial times. It has become a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Don’t let yourself be fooled by the tiny population of the island (roughly 55 000 souls!): Basseterre, the capital city, is bustling with life. If you are more of a nature lover though, make sure to go for a stroll along the volcanic sand beaches. You might also enjoy hiking along the jungle trails, looking for mongooses and vervet monkeys…

Water sports addicts will find their heart’s desire on the island’s clear waters, and the many shipwrecks lying around the island will ravish exploration enthusiasts.
