As you know, the most common wireless technology is WiFi. You as a hacker should be able to scan for and successfully connect to the devices that use WiFi network from your Linux system.

Terminologies

Let us first get familiar with basic Wi-Fi terms for better understanding.

AP (Access Point) The wireless device users connect to for internet access

SSID (Service Set Identifier) The name of the network

BSSID (Basic Service Set Identifier) The unique identifier of each AP like the MAC address of the device

ESSID (Extended Service Set Identifier) Used for multiple APs in a wireless local area network (LAN)

Channels On which WiFi can operate in one of 14 channels (1–14)

Modes Three modes: managed, master, and monitor

Frequency WiFi operates on 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Modern WiFi APs and wireless cards can use both frequencies.
