In Puffs

Puffs (the spoof Harry Potter play from the perspective of the Hufflepuffs) was… pretty great.

My favorite part was that Ron was played by a mop painted red.

Oh, and the MC trying and failing to keep a straight face during the Pokémon cameo! Amazing.

All the actors played multiple characters, there were amazing decorations all over the stalls, and some very magical announcements proceeded the performance like “please join us for charms club” and “charms club has been cancelled due to a complete lack of interest” and my personal favorite “today’s test will determine your ability to succeed at literally every job you could ever get ever, so I suggest studying!”

And just like the books and the movies, the plot started focused on the house cup (and the Puff’s determination to not come in last, but rather to come in third!) and then completely abandoned that motivation as the shadow of this certain other boy wizard (and his seven eventful years) grew ever larger.

It had a really sweet ending; maybe even better than the original Potter epilogue. Also, some classic slapstick puns (and some more Sirius ones).

Overall a lovely (if slightly kitschy) romp in a world of magic that is, I’m sure, legally distinct from that other one. You know the one.
