Hey there, it’s me.
Spinning out my first restaurant review tonight and guess what? I’m excited. You should be too.
Tonight I checked out a place called “Moody’s Pub.” Located in Chicago’s neighborhood of Edgewater. My notes from the evening are as follows:
First impressions: IT. SMELLS. LIKE. ONION. RINGS. Heaven. The place could almost be in an episode of Game of Thrones. There’s a stone fireplace at the back of the dining room, giant mugs of beer being passed out, and the lights are so low you’d think they run on candlelight.
Halfway through the evening:
1 glass of wine. 1 fish sandwich. A Mexican punch. Don’t worry, I’m ending my night responsibly with a cup of hot tea…..spiked with Grand Marnier. Hehe.
What can we gather from these fine notes? I had an enjoyable experience. The pub is good at being a pub. Personally, I enjoy a wholesome pub because it gives you that comforting “at home” feeling. No one is trying to be extra.
FOOD BREAKDOWN: I had a fish sandwich. The fish was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Perfect combination with onion, lettuce, tomato, and tartar sauce. Dip the hot crispy fries in that tartar sauce. 8/10.
DRINK BREAKDOWN: I had the house red wine. Super solid. Full, notes, oaky, fruity…whatever you’d like to call it. It’s good. NEXT, Mexican Punch. This reminded me of a night when 19 and got belligerently drunk at my cabin with one of my best friends on Rumchata. We danced to Beyonce for 2 hours straight. The Mexican Punch was like a Rumchata shake; refreshing and sweet, but oh so dangerous. Last but not least was the tea. The “tea.” To quote myself when the tea arrived: “Oh. Hell yeah. Mmm. Mmm…F***k.” Since I’ve been sick through most of this winter, tea has become a huge part of my life. Ending any night with a good cup of it almost feels as good as ending the night with great sex. Add a shot or two of liquor in there? I’m sold.
