As the first member of my family to have never lived in a trailer park, this hits home.
It ain’t just Black women. PWT has been all about the kitsch, too. It’s not a race thing, it’s a class thing, at least from where I stand — — but Black folks seem to have dodged the associated shame much better than my own folks.
Those of us who have had to make do with whatever’s at hand — — we’re coming into a time where we’re not ashamed of that anymore, and that is freaking awesome, no matter what color our skin is.
Resourcefulness is an asset, not a liability.
Long live tacky, dammit.
