Continuous challenge of Life

“Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle”— Napoleon Hill

Our life is a continuous series of awakening calls. They demand movement and progress, never stillness or backward movement.

Once we get something, we are afraid of losing it. We are afraid of losing our status, our money, our love and relationships. We are scared of trying something new because we are afraid of change. In the end, we worry about things that we neither created nor lost, they exist only in our minds.

Continuous challenge of Life

When we face a challenging moment in our life, we always have a choice to quit and move away. Quitting releases stress and pressure. It comes with a sense of freedom. However, life moves forward always throwing more challenges to us. With freedom quitting ives us, comes hardship and new challenges. When we quit if we are not learning, we are not training, we move backwards. But there is another way of approaching challenges… by embracing a Rebellious mindset.

When we rebel in a constructive manner, we create history.

There are two sides of what rebellion means. One side is destructive and it tends to break everything that there is in the moment and change it with something new. This is what a revolution looks like. This kind of rebellion is addictive and it gives us a sense of vengefulness. But it lacks long term meaning.

The other side of rebellion is constructive. People that embrace this kind of mindset, create valuable things that in time replace the old ways, not through a revolution, but through an evolution.

The great thing about nature is that it never stops. There is no end end for the universe, there is only an end to us. When we embrace the constructive Rebellious mindset, things will get into our way. But that is what keeps life interesting, that is how opportunity is created.

There is a Haitian proverb saying “Dèyè mòn, gen mòn” — “Beyond mountains, more mountains”. From this old wisdom we can see that people understood that in order to make things better, to create something of value, there will always be an uphill battle. The idea is to get used to it and train accordingly. To do that, we have to realize that life is a marathon and we need to conserve as much energy as possible, focusing only on the most impactful things that we can do. We need to chose our battles carefully and make sure that we become better in the process, so that we can fight the next one more wisely.

The thing is that in order to create something really meaningful, we have to start with our mind first. When challenges come in our way, determined to break us and our spirit, we can chose to simply flip them and improve in spite of them. We chose to improve because of them. By doing so, we are no longer afraid, but excited, cheerful and eager for the next round. The next round always comes and it’s always harder, but the choice on how we see them is ours.

I am a strong believer that once we can understand a subject, we can engage with the idea or refuse it altogether. Both ways are helping us grow and develop our own way of seeing the world.
