AURORA SPOTLIGHT: ATMOS PROTOCOL.

Stable-coins have been one of the most successful inventions in the crypto space and have enjoyed significant adoption since inception. Four out of the current top ten crypto currencies by market cap are stable-coins.
However, the most successful stable-coins in the market are all controlled by centralized entities and are backed by centralized collateral, and with the ease by which the government can clap down on centralized crypto protocols when they wish, decentralization has never been more desirable and fundamental for crypto projects as it is now.
Therefore it is necessary for the market to have sustainable and reliable decentralized stable-currencies.
Unfortunately, with the recent horrific failure of UST, market participants have become skeptical about the safety and reliability of decentralized algorithmic stable-currencies. We must however note that the failure of UST was due to its personal design flaw and it does not in anyway reflect the design of all decentralized stable-coins.
In fact, a new protocol: Atmos protocol is building a safe and sustainable decentralized stable-currency that will be native to the Aurora Ecosystem.

ATMOS PROTOCOL.
According to its medium Article, Atmos is a decentralized, open source, permissionless protocol operating on Aurora.
Atmos protocol aims to provide a decentralized money for Aurora to ensure fluid and safe movement and store of liquidity within the ecosystem. At the moment Atmos is building two tokens that will be launched on Aurora Soon, they are:

  • aUSD.
  • ATM.

Lets do a dive into these tokens to know what they are about.

What is aUSD?
aUSD is a decentralized stable currency that will be pegged to $1. To ensure the safety and sustainability of this decentralized money, atmos protocol has adopted some very smart features for aUSD.

One of this feature is the adoption of a factional-Algorithmic model. This simply means that one part of aUSD will be collateralized while the other part will remain algorithmic.
The collateral that will be backing part of aUSD will be USDC which is currently considered the safest stable-currency available in the crypto market. One major reason that makes USDC a smart collateral for aUSD is the fact that it is not native to the Aurora Ecosystem, therefore, aUSD sustainability is independent of Aurora, even though it will be native to the Aurora Ecosystem. This is unlike UST that was fully dependent on the survival of the Terra-luna ecosystem.

Secondly, Atmos has entered into a partnership with Aurigami; a safe and top lending protocol on Aurora. Since aUSD is partly backed by USDC, Atmos has decided that over 85% of USDC collateral will be deposited into Aurigami’s USDC lending pool to generate profit! This profit could ensure an expansion of aUSD collateral ratio and also be used to buy back ATM.

What is ATM?
ATM is the volatile token of Atmos protocol. it is the utility and governance token of the protocol, and aUSD is also going to be partly backed by ATM.
Upon further study of Atmos protocols documents, we were able to find some of the tokenomics of ATM which were very intriguing!
ATM will have a maximum supply of 100m tokens, however, the circulating supply of ATM is anticipated to be deflationary as the demand for aUSD increases!

Furthermore the community will be getting 85% share of ATM total supply. 75% of this will be obtainable through various liquidity mining programs, farming and staking.
While the other 10% of the will be reserved for a public sale event which will be held before the protocol launches.

CONCLUSION.
we are extremely bullish on what Atmos protocol is building within the Ecosystem. With a safe and reliable decentralized stable coin and an utility/governance token with an extremely healthy tokenomics.
we believe that aUSD and ATM will enjoy significant success on Aurora. We are hyped for their launch and you should too.

Pro tip: ATM has the tokenomics to be the next aurora moonshot, watch out for their public sale event!
