I’ve been in school for almost 25 years. I enjoy learning, exploring, and doing research as a Ph.D. student — largely because I’ve learned to enjoy and embrace the process of learning.

But like most people, I’ve stumbled much along the way and used to rely mostly on ineffective learning strategies. After engaging in a lot of trial and error and learning about how our minds and memory work (see this paper for a review of 10 learning techniques), I’ve come to realize that learning effectively means following relatively simple learning rules or principles.
