AUSROLLEN!
It’s not a command. It’s an invitation.
To drift. To coast. To freewheel. To enjoy a little respite. Relief.
An offer to release from the relentless grinding of pedals and savour the simple joy that comes from rolling on two wheels.
Deployed on sections that are often familiar, occasionally fresh but always appreciated, AUSROLLEN! was first introduced to me by my colleague and friend Ulf and has been an integral part of my riding ritual ever since.
Somewhere between the gas station meeting point, the elastic start time, the half-way bakery stop (with the short lived fruit stand) or the ritual of the coffee prep & the donning of adilettes before the showers, I realised that Ulf and his crew were the group for me.

The rag-tag bunch consisted of a Parisian whose lock weighed more than his bike, an Austrian who clearly had a phobia of back wheels such was his desire to lead from the front, a couple of local lads who shared the captains role, a Dutch dynamo and me, a Scot in Germany, all commuting 25km each way from Nürnberg to Herzogenaurach to jobs that we loved at adidas.
Road cycling and its cliques, logos and tech never appealed, but I found the art of the bike commute inherently attractive. In control of departure time and route, our location provides a range of opportunities varying from a 35 minute panic push to detours that could see you disappear for hours (longer if you get caught in the beer gardens) and provides a welcome buffer between work and home. The feeling of the suns warmth wrapping around bare arms at 630am, slowly bringing you and the world to life, or the cooling breeze of an evening tour, wiping away the layers of office grime that have collected through the the course of the day make it all worthwhile.
AUSROLLEN! embodies the spirit of the cyclist commuter; A sense of purpose, freedom and the awareness to take a moment to enjoy of lifes simple pleasures. You are invited to join us.
