Two things to check:
James Mackenzie

Mac definitely does hide the file extension, but I was able to remove it by right clicking the file and clicking “get info” where it shows the full name with extension and allows you to remove the extension. I’m also pretty sure everything else is formatted and loaded correctly on the SD card, because I plugged it in via HDMI to my TV and it booted up to the NOOBS recovery just fine. I’ll check that other blog post to see if there’s anything else I’ve missed.
