Annie helps a camper from our Fiction Workshop sound out a few troublesome words

Annie Boyer just finished her fourth year teaching language arts at Hill Country Middle School. She was kind enough to share her wonderful teaching abilities during our fiction workshop. Asked what her favorite part of ABC is, Annie points out the variety of fiction and non-fiction workshops we offer. “[Writing] isn’t just a tested subject,” she says. “It’s an art form.”

Annie expresses that, as a teacher, she wants to help kids grow what’s in their imagination, to help them zone in on their own abilities. In her free time, Annie enjoys doing a plethora of “crafty things” ― including making her own Kombucha. She is also working on a cross-country book club so that kids can connect with each other after school.

“I love that writing is a way to express what’s in your brain. You can make meaning out of your own connections with other people. The same piece can provide a different experience for everyone.” — Annie
