The Philippine National Museum Architectural design

Personally, I consider myself as a person of learning. I am a believer of the quote “ Learning is a life-long process”. I always loved learning about different cultures, also as a person of travel I would travel a lot to visit and places to understand and observe the culture . The mere presence of the art, food,or even people gives me joy on learning a country’s culture.

A friend, Shaira Puzon stole this shot, I was strucked by the painting.(personally don’t like being taken photos if alone).

One Saturday, i was finally privileged to visit our very own National Museum, with a few friends, we visited the said museum. Below I have chosen 8 artworks that made an impact on me( in no particular order).

8 art reflections:

  1. Virgin and Child by Isabelo Tampinco Y Lacandola

The sculpture represents the religious, catholic culture The Philippines has, aside from the one above it is evident that two exhibit halls in the museum are dedicated/ related to the religion of Catholicism and the church.

2. Old Man and a boy by Isabelo Tampinco Y Lacandola

The sculpture may reflect on what it seems to be a child helping out the father, the Filipino culture includes the love towards our elderly, especially if they are our parents.

3. The Spolarium by Juan Luna

Originally representing the hardships of the Filipinos during the Spanish rule. today, I see it more as an inspiration of the Filipino people on how we can go through hardships and how we are persevering through such challenges.

4. Confetti Rhythm by Mike Aquino

The artwork is abstract then is therefore open to interpretations, but personally it tells me about that things may look like a mess/ does not look good, beauty and progress may take time.

5. Portrait of mother and son of Sy Jao(Ignacio Boncan)

The artwork is a few among the others, it is one of the few that features a foreign looking person. goes to show that the Filipino culture has been influenced by foreign culture early.

6. Cafe Scene 2 by Emilio Aguilar Cruz

The painting shows some culture or scenario the Filipino has spending time in a coffee shop. unlike Americans who take their coffees home or to work, Filipinos actually spend time inside a coffee shop to talk.

7. Man with a bin by Isabelo Tampinco Y Lacandola

The sculpture shows our agricultural and probably simple lifestyle by the province areas, which main jobs are farming and fishing.

8. Nymph with vase by Isabelo Tampinco Y Lacandola

The sculpture simply shows a female role back then when things were traditional and old fashioned.

Final thoughts

The trip to the museum was much enjoyable, I enjoyed much of our very own culture and saw another perspective of it. I hope fellow Filipinos also take the time to visit historical places and museums to learn more about the Philippines.
