This is a sneak peak of my newly released Unit Plan Bundle for Teaching Media Arts to Year 1/2 Students. Read on for more details about this exciting new resource.

MEDIA ARTS — Year 1/2 — Tell Me A Tale — Whole Unit Bundle is a 10 week Unit Plan plus resources for Teaching Media Arts. It is aligned to the Australian Curriculum (Version 9.0). It is perfect for the specialist teacher, classroom teacher or homeschool parent to pick up and use.

Unit Overview:

Students will view and respond to a series of 1 minute interstitial animated narratives from the Series Tell Me A Tale. Tell Me A Tale explores wellbeing and emotional intelligence using the voices of real, Aussie kids, with animations based on their very own drawings. These episodes are currently available for viewing in Australia free on abc iview. https://iview.abc.net.au/show/tell-me-a-tale. Some episodes are also available on YouTube.

Students will learn how to take still close-up photos using a digital device such as an ipad. Students will create a visual sequence based on this story using worksheets provided and create a digital retell of the story using still images and audio recording of their own voice speaking.

In the upcoming Year 3/4 version of this unit, students will create their own story in the style of Tell me a Tale and create a digital audio storytelling media arts product. Follow me to be notified of updates.

What is Tell Me A Tale?

Tell Me A Tale is a series of 10 X 1 minute interstitial animated narratives, and is a fantastic resource for you to use in your classroom. The series was made by Taste Entertainment. It is an Australian Production with a cast from kids that live in Sydney, Regional NSW, Perth, the Northern Territory, and even ex-pat kids who have lived in India and Singapore. Tell Me a Tale shares important educational principles and pro-social values with children all over Australia, through characters and voices that look and sound like them. The images are based on the children’s own drawings, which have been animated. The voice over is done by children. There are sound effects and background music.

What you need for this unit:
