The Story Behind its Beginning:

There is really an unbelievable incident story behind the discovery of Virgin Airlines. Richard Branson started the Virgin Airlines in an amount less than $2000 and in a time of one hour. It seems to be funny but it’s true because it was an incident at that moment. Branson was moving to meet his then-girlfriend and now wife with a flight to Puerto Rico. The flight on which he was moving was canceled because of some problem in its schedule.

The whole airport was full with stranded passengers waiting for the flight. Richard made a few calls to charter companies and chartered a plane in $2,000. Then he divided the total cost by the number of seats in the charter plane. Then he borrowed a blackboard and wrote Virgin Airways on it. He decided the price $39 for this single flight to Puerto Rico.

Then he walked around the terminal of the airport and filed all the seats on the charter plane with passengers. As they landed to the destination a passenger turned back to Richard and said “Virgin Airways is not too bad”. Smarten up the services to a little extent and you will be in business in this Airlines field. It is the saying that changed whole thinking and life of Richard. He decided to get into business in this field because there are lots of opportunities to start a business.

Origins:

Its main origins are in the efforts of American lawyer Randolph Fields and Alan Hellary the chief pilot of British private Airlines. Hillary and Field decided to start a new company named as British Atlantic Airways in 1982. It was a flight decided to operate between London and Falkland Island in June 1982. It’s the time when the war of Falklands had just ended up. Field was finding an expert in this Airlines industry and then he met Hillary. They decided to make their ambitions come true. Their first license application was rejected in 1983 by British Airways, BAA, and British Caledonian. In the 2nd chance, they decided to apply for the license between Gatwick and New York, New Jersey with a plane of 380 seats named as McDonnell Douglas DC 10.

There was a huge competition with PEOPLExpress Airlines, a no-frills discount Airlines of New York. Then they decided to save more funds before proceeding to the next step of starting the Airlines. Then Field met with Richard Branson at a party in London and he purposed him a partnership in business. With 25% reduction in Field’s stake the Airlines was named as Virgin Atlantic and Field becomes its 1st Chairman. In 1984 during the month of November, a service of Virgin Airlines is started between Gatwick airport and Netherlands Maastricht Aachen airport with a charted plane names as BAC One 11. They added another Boeing 747 plane to its fleet in 1986. This plane moves between Gatwick to Miami airports.

After these flights many other flights or routes were launched from Gatwick to New York JFK in the year 1988. Other routes are from Gatwick to Tokyo started in 1989, to lose angles started in 1990, to Boston started in 1991 and to Orlando started in 1992. A service of Virgin Atlantic was started from Luton to Dublin in 1887 using a second-hand aircraft named as Viscount Turbo Prop. New club air Boeing plane 727 Jet Airways was started in 1988 and the Luton to Dublin route was cancelled in 1990.

In an interview held in 2015 during the month of June Richard admitted that his Airlines is really in trouble without Delta Airlines’s strategic support. In 2017 during July it announced that Virgin Atlantic is going to form a Joint Venture with Air France KLM. It was set in the agreement that it would retain its independence as an Airlines in the UK with its certification. Even after sharing its stake of 31% with KLM it will still be flying under the Virgin brand in the UK. In 2018 Virgin Airlines were rated as 83rd in the world among its competitors’ in energy efficiency.

In this way, the popular Virgin Airliness are started by Richard Branson in 1984. We can say it is really a great success story of a man, the owner of a well-known Airline which is ranking in top Airlines across the world.
