In our last post from the JavaScript for Microcontrollers and IoT series we implemented a small web server using only JavaScript on top of the JerryScript interpreter and the Particle Photon. In this post we will switch platforms! It’s time to introduce the popular ESP8266 and Espruino, a firmware with a JavaScript interpreter integrated in it. We will also be exploring how to use a serial fingerprint reader. Will Espruino plus the ESP8266 be a better alternative to JavaScript on a microcontroller?
