Make-Up: Who Needs It? Part III
Hey guys I’m back. Sorry for the nearly week long wait for my next post, but my life got unexpectedly busy lately from dealing with internet issues, to counseling appointments for school to figure something out, to a flat tire in my car and more. Anyway, time to pick up where I left off and answer the questions posed in my last post.
I think I’ll start by answering both questions at once. According to the media and today’s culture in general, the thing that is wrong about being our natural selves is that we simply don’t look like women or how we are supposed to, without the aid of makeup. While it does have its uses, such as covering up dark under eye bags due to lack of sleep before, or zits that of course appear right before that big date/dance/work function, etc…I’ll go so far as to say that 99% of the time, it’s not needed. 99% of the time, you’re not just beautiful, but also gorgeously hot without any extra help. As I have said before, all make-up does nothing except clog up your pores and lead to more breakouts that could be even worse than the ones you’re trying to cover up. Due to this, I say take a stand and say “Yeah I don’t look perfect, but I don’t care.” Own your imperfections, don’t hide them.
Recently, there was an article published in Time Magazine by writer Alexandra Sifferlin (click her name to be directed to the article) that talks about how women are now more happy with their bodies than ever before. While I am thrilled to hear this, I am still left wondering why this cannot include their face as well? Answer is simple and has already been used to open this post: the media. The continue to see how we literally buy into their make-up adds which signals to them to push it ever more, thus continuing this vicious trend.
Let me now elaborate on something I brought up earlier about how make-up does have its time and place. When attending or being the center of a wedding, special event, holiday, work party, first date, etc…make-up can be good. It can be used to highlight certain natural features such as high cheekbones, long lashes, or pretty eyes, and more. The catch to this, is realizing that it’s not needed on a daily basis. When you first meet someone, be it romantically, professionally, or otherwise, you want them to meet the real you, not the you that’s covered in layers of make-up. Sure first impressions are important, but one of the key things you want someone to remember about you is your confidence. This is something that should not have to be covered by make-up. Your confidence should not have to “shine through” anything except your skin. This shows that your confident in your own look and don’t need to waste time looking “perfect”.
I again ask you, to please stand with me and say, “Yeah I don’t look perfect, but I don’t care.” Own your imperfections, don’t hide them. #Make-upless #Reallynatural
