And that’s exactly why many will do it. They will look at that statement about statistical improbability, throw their fists up in an ‘I’ll show you' pump and see it as the challenge that they must face if they are to be an entrepreneur of any note or influence. They will do exactly the opposite of what you’re imploring them not to do/who to be because the lie of what it takes to ‘make it' (that is, to be considered significant to people who aren’t family or friends) has made it around the world so many times via so many media that it’s become the standard. The concept of “do as I say not as I’ve done or have seen done” is like the concept of censorship: it fuels the fire it’s trying to extinguish.
So while I get this article on many levels because it took me going into my thirties, moving to another country and asking myself what I wanted to do/what made me happy, I am glad I tried and failed and did all this stuff because I learned from it. I realized somewhere between all of that craziness that I’m good not going after the Facebook/Instagram/Tumblr etc… definition of entrepreneur. Maybe they need to go through hunting for the unicorn to really resonate with the narrative you’re trying to create.
