KNOWLEDGE AND KNOWLEDGEABILITY

KNOWLEDGE IS A DISEASE
Education has become a lucrative business. Every degree has a price attached to it. The more the number of degrees the greater is your ‘knowledge index’. Degrees increase your employment prospects. Our economic and social status is also linked to our degrees.
Does knowledge mean you are learned? Is knowledge all about degrees and education? Is real knowledge disseminated in colleges or does the world make you knowledgeable?
The real test of college life is when you enter the world. Life has a lot more to teach than what we learn in school or college. People who have never entered into the portals of college are sometimes more successful than PHD’s in the same field.
We can learn from this infinite school called life things that colleges never tech us. Animals and birds teach us how to live in the present without fretting about the past or worrying about what is to come. Forests teach you the values of solitude and peace. We can sit for hours in forest and learn how to coexist with fellow beings and self sustenance. Insects like ants teach us the values of discipline and hard work. Butterflies show us how to live aimlessly and joyfully and still be of use to the ecosystem. When moths get consumed by fire they teach us the value of sacrifice.
We humans have imposed our own laws that override the laws of nature. We wage wars with the weapons technology helps to create. We chop forests, hunt helpless animals for pleasure with weapons meant to kill or maim them. Factories that produce goods to make life easier for us spew noxious gases and effluents. Internet which has made life easier for us has killed the art of letters and writing.
Knowledge is a double edged weapon which can be used for constructive and destructive purposes. However, it is not always in the domain of colleges and textbooks. Life has a lot to teach and we have a lot to learn from life.
We have just to keep our ears and eyes open to world around us!
