An open letter to Americans from the rest of the world.

Dear America,

Listen, I know most Americans don’t care much about what a foreigner thinks when it comes to your politics, policies, national interests… but we need to talk.

We are scared. In fact, we’re terrified.

See, the United States impacts the world a lot with your dollar, your military, your policies and of course, your leadership. We have a vested interest in what happens in the U.S. because it affects the rest of us just as much as it does you.

Over the years, we’ve seen your politicians go from promoting policies, to attacking each other’s policies to attacking each other. But it’s not just your politicians. The people have followed suit. We watch as good people attack each other solely based on who they’re going to vote for in the next election just as their leaders do the same in commercials and at podiums.

As a result of this, we’ve watched the United States go from a two party system to a two polar opposites, extremes system where no one ever agrees with each other about anything, no one ever works together on anything and hate is the key motivational factor behind just about everything.

It is not by accident that the United States is now having to choose between a socialist and a fascist. This has been coming for some time. Not entirely without irony, it all started with the words “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” Since then, the lines between democrat and republican have become the widest of valleys, barely even able to see each other much less able to look at the world from each other’s point of view.

We’re scared, not because of the extremes that you now have to choose from but because of what happens next. Where do you go from here? Who will be your choices in the next election?

You’re already at a tipping point. Think about it. When it comes to guns, you are either all or none. Marriage, all or none. Abortions, all or none. Taxes, all or none. Immigrants, all or none. Health care, all or none. I could go on and on but the point is, you no longer work together. You no longer compromise. You no longer seem to even care about anything anymore except in being the exact opposite of what ever the other person says. Your politicians even talk to reporters about shutting each other down regardless of what the other person might say. They don’t know what they’ll say, but they’ll oppose it!

That’s a house divided against itself and it scares the hell out of us!

You have been so focused on what ever wing you stand on that you haven’t even realized that you’ve been pushed so far out to the tip of that wing that you can’t even see the bird anymore. That common bird that you both share, the mighty eagle. The ultimate symbol of freedom, nobility, power and leadership. It holds everything together. It needs to have both wings to fly. Those wings must be strong and work in unison. But you’ve lost sight of that. The eagle.. bless her… will crash.

So where do you go from here? Socialist? Fascist? What’s next? Because what’s next will be worse. What ever side you see yourself on, it doesn’t matter. It will be worse.

We aren’t American. We have no say in what happens next. But it impacts us directly. It impacts everyone. The decisions you make will shape the world and the world is feeling… we’re scared.

If Americans can’t find solutions that will work for both sides, then the solutions that it does find will work for no one. Because everything will collapse.

President Lincoln was right. I just wish that we weren’t all in great danger of it being proven so.

- Signed, sincerely,
The World.
