Breaking the cycle
It’s amazing to see the transformation that happens when you speak to someone’s possibility (what’s possible for them). When they realize they are not defined by their past and regardless of where they are at any given point in time, they can be a positive contribution to this world.
That’s what our program at Barry J Nidorf is all about. We focus on the fact that we are not our past. We have stories to give away, but we are not our stories. Last 10 months have been full of learning and perspective. America Innovates and the Justice Work Group at UCLA have been running an anti-recidivism education program at Barry J. Nidrof Juvenile Hall, where we’ve engaged the youth in coming up with solutions to the problem of recidivism. Students enrolled in the program are responsible for developing a proposal to reduce recidivism in drawing on their unique perspective and experiences.
We are truly grateful to everyone who contributed to the success of the program either with their time or the Laptops donated.
A big shout-out to the following companies and individuals:
Shekhar Purohit, Talent Next India
Aileen Gemma Smith, Vizalytics
Barrie Robinson — Future Basics
Maneeza Aminy, Marvel Marketers

We look forward to presenting our proposal at the “Beyond the Bars” conference at UCLA, in October.

Much gratitude.
