Silicon Valley is home to some of the brightest minds, yet the income inequality in the Bay area is among the nation’s highest. Research says ”Over the last 30 years, wage inequality in the United States has increased substantially, with the overall level of inequality now approaching the extreme level that prevailed prior to the Great Depression”. This is the time for employers, corporations and academics to take on a real leadership role so that no one is left behind.

The Silicon Valley Apprenticeship Summit was founded on the principles that everyone deserves a fair chance to develop their skill set, regardless of their race, class or economic background. It’s a platform that brings together visionaries, innovators and organizations with an interest in bridging the equity gap. We must begin to rethink learning in a way that aligns with where the future of work lies. As our society is going through unprecedented change, now is the time to put our collective brainpower and resources to use for the greater good. We need to come up with new models to turn a destructive cycle of income inequality into prosperity for all.

We are excited to bring together industry leaders and academics for the first Apprenticeship Summit sponsored by SAP. The goal is to start the conversation with industry peers and help build career pathways for people to secure gainful employment, thereby serving not only their own interests but also progress for the society overall.

Who Should Attend:

  • Department Executives interested in implementing an apprenticeship program (i.e. Head of Engineering, Development, Security, IT, etc…)
  • HR Business Partner/HR Director
  • Head of Talent Acquisition/Recruiter open to identifying alternative ways to bring in non-traditional talent
  • Diversity and Inclusion Executives
  • Corporate Social Responsibility Director/Regional Lead
  • Additional roles: CHRO, CLO, CEO, CTO,CIO

Speakers:

Here in Silicon Valley, we have always been different. We have some of the most brilliant and disruptive minds in the world. However, the tech industry in Silicon Valley can and should do more to increase diversity, inclusion, income equality, and open paths to economic opportunity.

Our situation is urgent. It’s time to disrupt our traditional hiring models and talent pipelines. Let’s be bold and fearless in our innovation. Let’s work together to develop local, diverse talent with grit and the skills needed to shape the future of work.

Why should companies invest in Apprenticeships? It’s a no-brainer that apprenticeships make for a good return on investment, both for companies and communities. There is a big skill gap in the US currently and there will be a shortage of approximately 1.6M (McKinsey Global Institute) middle-skill workers by 2020. According to the White House Summit on American Apprenticeships — for every dollar spent on Apprenticeships employers gain $1.47 through increased productivity, reduced waste, and greater front-line innovation.

Gratitude for our parters Techtonica, Tech SF and Apprenti.
