Import brands dominate Certified Pre-Owned sales
Numbers have rolled in for certified pre-owned sales for the month of April, and the big winners are imported brands such as Hyundai, Infiniti and Jaguar. Many brands have seen double digit increases over last year, due in large part to refreshed product lineups the have grown over the last few years.
Currently, used cars make up roughly three quarters of vehicle sales in the U.S., and certified pre-owned vehicles are making up a larger cut of that segment each year. Vehicles returning from leases along with rental vehicles are now filling the market with high-quality, lower mileage used cars.
Among the biggest increases for luxury brands was Inifinti, which according to Autodata saw a jump of 93.4 percent from April of last year. The new Q50 and QX60 have been helping new Infiniti sales, and older G37 models have become a great value in the pre-owned market.
Tata-owned brands Jaguar and Land Rover have both managed to more than double their CPO sales since last year. Jaguar was up 110.5 percent to 560 sales and Land Rover was up an even higher 116 percent to 1,069 sales.
Hyundai had their best April ever when it came to pre-owned sales, moving nearly 8,000 vehicles for a 27.5 percent yearly increase. And it wasn’t just a strong April either, as Hyundai has been seeing similar increases since the beginning of 2014. Sales of the Elantra and Sonata have been exceptionally strong, and brand loyalty is high as well which helps sales tremendously.
