The longest lasting used cars you can buy today

When searching for a used car to purchase, you want to be sure to get a model that is going to last many miles. Newer vehicles have been getting more reliable each year, and many cars and trucks have no problem crossing the 200,000 mile mark. Business insider put together a list of cars, trucks and SUVs that have the highest percentage of vehicles with over 200,000 miles.

The list is made up of mostly Ford and Chevrolet heavy duty trucks and SUVs, which are built using proven technology and are made to handle more demanding conditions. With 4.2 percent of its fleet over 200,000 miles, the F-250 takes the number one spot, beating the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD with 3.6 percent.

If you are in the market for something a little more practical than a heavy duty pickup truck, the top two passenger vehicles on the list are the Chevrolet Suburban and the Toyota 4Runner, with 3.6 and 3.5 percent of vehicles over 200k miles, respectively. Excluding SUVs and trucks, the Honda Accord takes the top spot with 1.6 percent, and the Subaru Legacy follows up with 1.5 percent.

With the average age of a vehicle in the U.S. at 11.4 years, and expected to increase to 11.7 years by 2019, the percentages on this list are only going to increase. Purchasing a certified used car at Enterprise Car Sales will get you a vehicle that still has most of its life remaining. The chances of buying a ‘bad’ used car nowadays are increasingly slim.

Doing your homework and thoroughly researching a car before purchasing is still important, however. With tens of millions of used vehicles sold every year, there is definitely no shortage of cars and trucks to choose from.
