Electric vehicles are widely considered to be the future of mobility, with many manufacturers introducing new electric vehicles in the last four years. Tata is currently the most popular electric car manufacturer in India. With the popularity of electric vehicles, many companies offer conversion kits to convert internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles into electric vehicles. We have introduced many such projects in the past from different parts of the country. Watch the video of India’s most iconic sedan, the Hindustan Ambassador, transformed into an electric car.

The video was shared by He-Man Auto Robopark Pvt Ltd based in Angamalee, Kerala. According to available online reports, the team recruited an ancient Hindu ambassador for the project. After receiving the car, they completely removed the engine and replaced it with an electric motor. The engine is powered by a lead-acid battery located in the trunk of the vehicle, with additional batteries under the hood, a total of 22 batteries making up his 20kW power supply.

The new electric motor in the Ambassador EV delivers 53 horsepower and a peak torque of 275 Nm. The electric sedan has a top speed of 120 km/h and can accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h in 12 seconds. A substantial 275Nm of torque occurs at 0 rpm. This is a huge advantage for vehicles that can tow heavy loads. The video shows the ambassador towing his heavily loaded 6.5-ton truck and without major problems, he is moving the 8-ton load.

The Hindustan Ambassador EV can run 100 km on a fully charged battery with a low running cost of around Rs 1 per km. However, there is no fast charging feature at this time. The team is working on a lithium-ion battery pack for future models, pending approval from Arai. Once approved, they plan to manufacture more car conversion kits.

The HM Ambassador EV has a minor cabin change and replaces the original instrument cluster with an aftermarket digital instrument cluster to provide notifications such as mileage, battery status and notifications related to the regenerative braking system that recharges the battery while driving. Ambassador EV

The Hindustan Ambassador EV is still a project car and the total cost of this conversion is around Rs 600 crore. The Ambassador EV is in the prototype stage and the final product will likely cost less. He-Man Auto Robopark Pvt Ltd has not communicated a timetable for the launch of conversion kits suitable for other models. This isn’t the first time I’ve come across an EV rebuild like this. Pune-based company Northway Motorsports has carried out a number of retrofitting projects, converting vehicles with petrol and diesel engines into electric vehicles. They recently launched a sedan conversion kit. This kit is indeed RTO approved and can be built into your vehicle’s RC. It is said to be a plug-and-play system that allows a car to be easily converted into an electric vehicle by simply removing the gasoline or diesel engine from the car. The Northway Motorsports conversion kit is around Rs 5 million for a sedan.
